Goals and Aspirations for 2014

I’ll be fifty years old in 2014 and I’m actually looking forward to celebrating this milestone. I’m excited to have lived to see fifty. I realize I’m very fortunate to be alive. My oldest sister Joan, died at the tender age of sixteen while she was still in high school.

I know, I know, everyone is making resolutions for the New Year and most of them won’t be kept past the end of February. That is why I’m not making resolutions but setting goals and projecting aspirations.

I’ve come up with a few goals and aspirations for 2014 which I’ve listed below. Eating healthier is one of them. I had a rebirth on 1 June 2013 where one of the things I did was eliminate certain foods from my diet and honestly I haven’t missed them (I did however have one doughnut in December.) I intend on taking my eating healthy plan a little further and only eat meat (to include chicken) three times a week. I intend to eat fish and meatless meals all other times.

Goals and Aspirations for 2014

1. Spend more quality time with my mother.
2. Be more patient with my parents. So what if I’ve heard the story a million times. If they want to tell it again I’ll listen. There are so many people who wish their parents were still alive.
3. Do not accumulate more stuff. If I purchase any material thing, I will get rid of two things that I already own. I went through a cleansing process in December for 20 days (which I should have blogged about but didn’t.) I think I’ll go ahead and share it on my blog for the first 20 days of January. It was a game from the minimalist. It was supposed to be for the entire month but I only got up to day 20.
4. Rebalance my portfolio in January and leave it alone for the rest of the year. Also, I need to keep my hands off my savings. (Easier said than done but I’m going to try.)
5. Maintain my Blog on a regular basis. Post to it at least once a week.
6. Drink more water. Improve my diet.
7. Continue my Spanish lessons. It’s good to know a second language. I may not become proficient but it will definitely keep my brain active.
8. Read more and spend less time on social media.
9. Make more phone calls to my family and friends.
10. Visit the African Continent. The first countries I want to visit are Ghana, Tanzania, and Kenya. I just need to get over my fear of taking these malaria pills. That’s the only thing holding me back right now. I’ve been reading about the side effects and there are many.
11. Take my Mom on a vacation to a country she has never been.

  1. Wonderful post, and inspiring. Love the bit about being nicer to your parents. I so get that. I wish I could be bothered by my Dad again. What a gem he was.
But please: DO eat that occasional donut. I eat almost all healthy, and enjoy some sweets occasionally, keeps the wieght on!
You’re a joy. Sure hope you get to go to Africa……..I will njoy vicariously. Can’t wait to hear more about where you take your mama. Here’s a warm hug for this new trip around the sun!!

  2. Interesting….and funny.

No.2, I wish i had both parents to keep repeating things a million times…
A letter from a Mother to a Daughter: “My dear girl, the day you see I’m getting old, I ask you to please be patient, but most of all, try to understand what I’m going through. If when we talk, I repeat the same thing a thousand times, don’t interrupt to say: “You said the same thing a minute ago”… Just listen, please. Try to remember the times when you were little and I would read the same story night after night until you would fall asleep. When I don’t want to take a bath, don’t be mad and d…
