How do you introduce yourself? Do you say (1) I am ________ or (2) My name is _______.
I have been making a conscious effort to say “I am” instead of “My name is.” I don’t know why but when I say “I am,” instead of “my name is” I feel more confident. It’s like I’m claiming who I am and not just saying this is the name I was given.
Since the subject was on my mind I decided to do a little research and noticed that everyone is recommending the “I’m/I am, instead of “my name is.” Wow! Looks like I might be on to something here. In the course of my research I learned that if you’ve been told the other person’s name before you introduce yourself, you should repeat their name before offering yours. “Hello/Hi Lisa, I’m Jane.”
There is a lot more to the art of introducing yourself but I was only curious about this part. If you’d like to learn more just type in “How to introduce yourself?” into your favorite engine search and you’ll discover a wealth of information.
